New Year, New Goals: Veganuary with SBC

After weeks of indulgence over the festive period we are all feeling a little sluggish and tired, with the bonus of dull, dehydrated skin. We tend to find ourselves feeling more inspired than ever to make some healthy, positive changes in order to give us a good boost of health and get our skincare back on track.

It’s January and more people than ever before have committed to reducing their meat and dairy consumption for the month, jumping on the Veganuary wagon.

Why give Veganuary a go?

You may have heard a lot about plant-based, vegan lifestyle changes, including anything from our diets to our skincare products.

One of the main reasons why people go vegan is because they care for animals, so they change their diet to help curb animal cruelty.

Another reason is that a vegan diet is known for its health benefits. It generally nourishes your gut, and a healthy gut means less bloating, greater immunity and believe it or not, healthier looking skin. It is also argued that a healthy gut may also be connected to a healthier mind, meaning that what food we put into our bodies can impact our mental well-being.

Also, due to recent awareness campaigns, many people are turning to veganism to reduce their carbon footprint and help protect the environment, which is more important than ever. The production of plant-based foods requires less energy from fossil fuels, and requires less land and water than other foods, and therefore has less of an impact on the environment.

What is Veganuary?

To put it simply, it means being a vegan for the month of January. This means not eating or using any animal products, including all meat, fish, dairy, eggs or honey, or other bee products, such as propolis and royal jelly.

As the name suggests, plant-based foods and products are made from ingredients that are derived from plants such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, whole grains, seeds, nuts, and herbs. These naturally derived ingredients are jam-packed with the essential vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients that support glowing skin, strong nails, and healthy hair.

There is no better time to try the plant-based approach than the start of the new year. We are talking diet and skincare – and in no time at all you’ll beat the bloat, increase energy levels and your skin will be glowing with health.

Where to Start…

Get yourself a few vegan cookbooks, you’ll be surprised at just how tasty vegan recipes can be. If you are not ready to fully commit, try a few vegan meals throughout the week, and we assure you, you will see and feel the difference.

The key is to really think about your meals and plan, plan, plan!

Plant-based lifestyles can offer many health benefits, including the promotion of healthy skin. The key to healthy skin is finding a balance between what you put in your body, what you put on your body, and how you take care of your body.

Don’t Forget your Vegan Skincare…

While there are many reasons why vegan skincare products should be welcomed into your skincare routine, there are a few key benefits worth highlighting:

  • Antioxidant-rich vegan ingredients in skincare work to restore and strengthen your body’s cells by combating free radicals (oxidants).
  • The vitamins in vegan skincare products are vital to maintaining the health of your skin. They also replenish the skin and can help decrease signs of ageing.
  • Essential fatty acids within these vegan formulas help support the skin’s natural defence barrier to smooth, protect, and repair. Offering several skin benefits such as helping to calm breakouts, soothe dryness, balance oiliness, smooth texture and increase skin elasticity.

So, if your skin is showing signs of imbalance, dullness and dehydration this January (common complaints throughout winter) it’s time for a superfood boost. Think extracts of Aloe Vera, Cucumber, Grapefruit and Green Caviar.
