    • A complete skincare routine now is the best step in creating a lifetime of healthy habits and preventing future skin issues. The appearance of your skin is influenced mainly by your skin care routine.

 

    • Never use oil-based makeup products because they may clog your facial pores and cause breakouts.

 

    • It is vital that skin care products are non-comedogenic and non-acnegenic.

    • Always wear an SPF (Sun Protection Factor), even during the winter months to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Often the damage that occurs now is what will be evident when you get older.

 

    • Regular exfoliation is important to ensure you are helping to rid the skin of dead skin cells and will help to unblock pores.

 

    • Many of the products claiming to help by getting rid of excess oil actually make matters worse because they contain ingredients that aggravate skin and trigger more oily shine. Choose gentle products!

 

    • After washing your face, gently pat dry with a clean towel. Do not rub dry. Rubbing the skin will only irritate your skin and may lead to further breakouts.

 

    • Avoid touching your face with dirty hands as you can transform bacteria and cause inflammation.

 

    • Avoid picking spots as this may lead to scarring, if you can’t resist, we recommend holding a warm flannel over the spot for a minute. Then take clean hands, split two bits of loo roll, and wrap them around your forefingers and gently squeeze in from the outside. It should come away easily. If it doesn’t come away, it’s not ready!

 

    • Eat plenty of fresh vegetables and fruits, fish, whole grains.

 

    • Eat chocolate, greasy, and fattening foods in moderation.

 

    • Drink plenty of water, ideally 1.5 litres a day to keep your skin and body hydrated.

 

    • Don’t go to sleep with makeup on. Remove your makeup before bedtime to prevent clogged pores and future breakouts.

 

    • Wash your cosmetic brushes/sponges at least once a week in soapy water to remove oil and bacteria.

 

    • Washing your pillowcases frequently will also help to prevent acne. They are carriers of bacteria and germs that can cause acne or pimples to form.

 

    • Long hair around the face and wearing hats too frequently can also allow teen acne to spread. Keep hair clean and away from the face.

 

    • Showering after any sports activity is important as perspiration and oil can settle on the skin’s surface, trapping dirt and bacteria in your pores which can lead to breakouts on the back and chest area.
